Over the years, our translation team has experienced the many challenges, pitfalls and amusing ironies inherent in the translation of English materials into Spanish. The immediate challenge for the translator is to appeal to all audiences while remaining local enough to communicate to each reader. In view of the many types of Spanish, each with distinct nuances of lexicon, the task is not a simple one. We are occasionally asked to translate to "international Spanish" — a vague and non-committal term that carries with it the assumption that one can appeal to South American audiences and Iberian audiences ...
